About Piaowen
I am a professional collaborative pianist and piano teacher with extensive experience in performance, coaching, and music education. I worked as a Staff Pianist at Mannes School of Music for four years and I also served for one year as a choir accompanist at Queens College. Before coming to New York, I completed two years of teaching practicum at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where I worked with undergraduate students in ear training and music theory. My background in collaborative piano has also given me extensive experience working with singers and instrumentalists in lessons, rehearsals, auditions, and performances.
I have taught children, adult learners, exam candidates, and advanced students. Many of my students have successfully completed graded music examinations and prepared for school and conservatory admissions. I am familiar with ABRSM and NYSSMA requirements and can also support students in music theory, ear training, sight-reading, accompaniment, and vocal coaching.
I value both strong musical foundations and each student’s individual interests, and I aim to help students develop reliable technique, musicianship, confidence, and a lasting connection with music.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s interests, goals, and learning style. I have experience teaching children, adult students, exam candidates, and collaborative piano/accompaniment students, and I am familiar with both ABRSM and NYSSMA requirements.
I place a strong emphasis on building healthy, efficient piano technique, especially for students with smaller hands, and I enjoy helping students understand how to use their hands and body naturally at the instrument rather than simply “trying harder.” Lessons can also include music theory, ear training, sight-reading, and musicianship skills as needed.
Whether you are preparing for an exam, building a strong technical foundation, returning to piano as an adult, or simply learning music you genuinely enjoy, I aim to create lessons that are structured, encouraging, and responsive to your individual goals.
