About Nina

Hi there! I am a very experienced teacher who has taught students from around the world in my job as an ESL /EFL instructor in Vancouver universities and colleges including VCC and UBC. From very beginners to advanced university academic English , I am ready with techniques and strategies to help you improve as fast as possible. With my background in linguistics and a masters in adult education I have a quick ability to adapt our lessons to best suit your learning style and current level. I love language learning and speak 3 other languages ( Spanish fluent , French and Italian intermediate) so I understand the point of view of a student very well ! Besides my background in education, I am an artist and musician. I can help you to achieve your language goals in a fun, supportive and creative process ! I also am experimenting with apps and AI and can help you find ways to support your language learning with free technology! I have a lot of experience teaching and tutoring online and am excited to meet new students and help them to achieve their goals and move forward with their life plans !

About the lesson

If you are preparing for an IELTS or Celpip, I do an assessment and I create a goal-structured set of lessons including activities in and out of the classroom to get your skills leveling up right away. We practice with a lot of feedback and suggestions for improvement as well as work on test taking strategies.
If we are working on general English improvement , I will do a needs based analysis , find out your strengths , areas to improve and your interests and learning style. Then I design a special course for you enhanced by your individual style . I use a discovery learning method which is a proven way to internalize and consolidate language learning by observation , discovery , modeling, practicing and then free play ! I also supplement course work with extra materials , recommendations , self and guided study activities and assignments you can send me. It’s important to keep the language learning wheels turning daily and I can help you to develop learning strategies and recommend many free materials and apps to keep you moving forward . Basically , our time in class is maximized to get you feedback in the moment that translates to progression in your comprehension and language production … I create dynamic realistic and fun communicative activities with real world scenarios that we can practice !

I taught English with Nina for 25 years. She is an amazing instructor who truly cares about her students' progress. She is knowledgeable and well-acquainted with current teaching methods. She was an inspiration to her fellow instructors when online learning became a huge part of English language acquisition as she was both interested and accomplished in the medium. Nina and I share our love of language and often speak different languages when we communicate with each other. Having learned other languages makes Nina an empathetic teacher. I know Nina will be successful in this endeavour and highly recommend her.
