About Amber

Hi! I am Amber, a passionate and certified Mandarin teacher from Taiwan, currently based in Glasgow, UK, holding a Master’s degree in Art Psychotherapy.

I’ve taught Mandarin to learners of all ages, from young people to working adults, coming from very diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Whether teaching online one-on-one sessions or evening adult classes, I’m used to adapting my pace to fit each person. I know where different learners tend to get confused with tones or characters, and I love helping people feel comfortable speaking right from the start.

My foundation in education is backed by an official Certificate for Teaching Mandarin as a Second Language from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, a degree in Special Education, and four years of experience as a SEND teacher in a primary school. Having also worked as a cultural facilitator, I love bringing real-life Taiwanese culture into our conversations and creating a relaxed space where you can speak freely and make mistakes without worry.

Combining my certified teaching background with my therapeutic training, I bring patience, structured guidance, and attentive listening to every session. I look forward to accompanying you on your Mandarin journey with warmth, curiosity, and confidence!

About the lesson

My teaching approach is student-centred, practical, and highly adaptive. With a background in Special Education and a certified qualification in Teaching Mandarin as a Second Language, I excel at observing individual learning styles and breaking down complex language concepts into accessible, engaging steps. Whether you want to master tones, navigate daily life, or dive into Taiwanese culture, every session is tailored to your unique pace.

How we learn together:
• Immersive & Conversational: We focus on real-world speaking and active listening from day one, using natural dialogue and cultural context rather than repetitive drills.
• Step-by-Step Structure: From Pinyin/ㄅㄆㄇㄈ and tone correction to reading, grammar, and exam preparation, our lessons build steady confidence without overwhelming you.
• Lesson Length & Flexibility: Typical lessons run for 50-60 minutes, structured to give you ample time for review, new concepts, and interactive practice.
