About Marianne
Hi, I'm Marianne and I am a musician (pianist, vocalist, guitarist and drummer), interdisciplinary artist and performer from North East England!
I began my professional musical studies at The Glasshouse (formerly Sage Gateshead's) Centre for Advanced Training, going on to study music at The University of Edinburgh and Newcastle University respectively - performance, composition, live art and sound art!
Having always been interested in how music and other art forms intertwine (particularly after a residency with Tinderbox Collective) I completed an MA in Creative Arts Practice which allowed me to experiment with art form fusion and explore more with my synaesthesia and embodied music and art making!
This aligns, also with my teaching, through which I enjoy getting creative and helping people work out how they learn best and in a kinaesthetic (learning by doing!) manner - recognising how I learned best growing up and using these methods to tackle challenging concepts and making filling gaps in one's knowledge less intimidating!

Hi! My name is Marianne and I'm a musician, artist and performer from North East England! And I'm committed to helping you learn the ins and outs of music theory in a fun, playful and thorough manner! Whether you're learning for yourself to understand what's going on in what you're playing, to help you write your own music or to get through your Grade 5 theory so you can just get over this hurdle through to the practical exams again!
Having studied an MA in Creative Arts Practice (combining music, visual and digital arts (at Culture Lab, Newcastle University) and working with a variety of students with different needs and learning styles (and what I needed when I was learning) I recognised a need for more play and joy in lessons - especially when learning challenging concepts and to tackle one's fears and the unknown! I therefore often use colour, creativity and a variety of teaching methods in my lessons - making sure to tailor it to the student's personal learning style and what helps them learn!
My lessons can be 30 mins, 45 mins or 1 hour and are suitable for all ages (I usually suggest age 4+ with no upper age limit!) and teach complete beginners up to those tackling Grade 5 Music Theory Exams as well as GCSE and A Level Tuition upon request!
