About Tullia Sarah

Hello, my name is Tullia and I am half-American, and half Italian from Venice (the actual city), and was born in New York. I spent many years of my childhood growing up in Asia, between Pakistan and many locations in the South East. I have lived in London for 16 years, and I am currently living in West London. I love to travel and visit my home back in Venice. I enjoy attending art exhibitions, practising yoga, going for long walks and socialising with my friends.

About the lesson

I am a CELTA certified English tutor, and I speak fluently 5 languages. Italian and English are both my native languages and therefore I teach both languages. I therefore adopt a conversational approach when teaching, where grammar and any exercises are included as part of my lessons, in a fun and interactive way through conversation.

When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
My interest in teaching English and Italian started early, driven by a fascination with language and literature.
I discovered a passion for sharing this love through tutoring during college, seeing how it transformed students' confidence and abilities.
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
In English, I cover grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, and literature analysis. I enjoy exploring themes and characters in literature. In Italian, I focus on language acquisition, grammar, and cultural insights. Some students may find grammar challenging, but I provide support.
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
My high school English teacher, inspired me with her passion for literature and dedication to her students.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
A good tutor needs patience, empathy, and effective communication skills. Adaptability is crucial to cater to individual learning styles.
A genuine passion for the languages being taught and a commitment to continuous learning are also essential.

One student struggled with Shakespearean literature initially. Through personalised guidance, they gained confidence and appreciation for the works.
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
Overcoming students' fear of creative expression and addressing diverse learning styles are challenges I face.
