About Pip

I am an interior designer and experienced tutor with a First Class BA (Hons) in Interior Design and an MA in Communication Design from Norwich University of the Arts. I have four years' experience tutoring and mentoring students through to BA (Hons) degree level.

I work primarily with interior design students who are already studying on a foundation, diploma, recognised online course or undergraduate degree and would benefit from additional one-to-one support alongside their studies.

My background in both Interior Design and Communication Design enables me to support not only the development of a design, but also the thinking, research and visual communication that sit behind it. I particularly enjoy helping students with concept development, spatial planning, design resolution and critique, portfolios and presentations, Photoshop and academic work.

I can also support essays, research, referencing, critical writing and undergraduate dissertations, helping students develop their ideas, structure their arguments and communicate their thinking more clearly. My role is to guide, question and critique rather than complete assessed work for a student, so the work and ideas always remain their own.

My approach is constructive, patient and detailed. I want students to understand why a design decision works, rather than simply being told what to change. This helps develop stronger projects while also building the independent thinking and critical judgement needed throughout an interior design course.

About the lesson

Every student comes to tutoring for a different reason, so I begin by understanding the course you are studying, your current level, the project or module you are working on and what you would like help with.

You may need support developing an initial concept, resolving a design that has become stuck, improving spatial planning, reviewing work before a tutorial or submission, strengthening a portfolio or presentation, developing your Photoshop skills, or understanding feedback you have received from your course tutor.

I can also provide an independent critique of work in progress. We can look together at what is working, where the project needs further development and whether your concept, research, drawings and presentation are communicating the design as effectively as they could.

For academic work, I can help with research methods, essay and dissertation structure, critical thinking, referencing and developing a clear written argument. I will help you understand and improve your work rather than write assessed material for you.

Online tutorials work particularly well for design students because we can share screens and work directly with your drawings, SketchUp models, Photoshop files, presentations, portfolios, project briefs and tutor feedback during the session.

Before arranging regular tuition, I offer an introductory consultation so that we can discuss what you are studying, where you are in your course and what you would like to achieve. This also gives us both an opportunity to decide whether I am the right tutor for the support you need.

My tutoring is best suited to foundation, diploma, adult-learning and undergraduate Interior Design students, including mature students and those studying through recognised online course providers.

All lessons are delivered online, with flexible scheduling to accommodate your studies and other commitments.
