About Ivy
I’m a guitar tutor with over 3 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Science in Audio Engineering, with a guitar focus. I love helping students improvise across jazz and blues styles while discovering their own voice.
My teaching is supportive, engaging, and goal-oriented, suitable for beginners, hobbyists, and professional musicians alike. I focus on modal scales, arpeggios, dominant seventh theory, and bebop phrasing to give students the tools for expressive solos.
I work with intermediate and advanced players, including those preparing for live performances. Lessons balance technique, theory, and improvisation, fostering creativity and confidence.
Students learn to develop phrasing, melodic ideas, and unique improvisational voices. I emphasise musical storytelling and expressive playing.
Whether your goal is jazz improvisation, blues soloing, or gig preparation, lessons are tailored to your needs. Together, we’ll explore the guitar as a tool for spontaneous musical expression.

My teaching approach is centred on helping guitarists become confident music readers. I guide students through tablature and standard notation, making sight-reading and rhythm exercises clear and accessible. Lessons follow a structured, step-by-step progression.
Students practise reading melodies, rhythmic patterns, and sight-reading passages to build fluency in multiple musical contexts. I emphasise accuracy, timing, and expressive interpretation to foster independence and confidence.
I work with both Classical Purists and Jazz Explorers, supporting them in navigating written music efficiently. Lessons integrate theory, technique, and reading practice to enhance overall musicianship.
Students learn to connect the notes on the page with their instrument, developing both speed and comprehension. I provide exercises tailored to goals ranging from classical pieces to jazz improvisation.
The aim is to make music reading intuitive and enjoyable. Together, we’ll unlock written music and empower students to explore any style with confidence.
