About Emily
I am a guitar tutor with over 7 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Studio Music and Jazz, Guitar Principal. I teach Electric, Acoustic, Classical, and Bass Guitar for media composition. Lessons cover atmospheric textures, thematic development, and sound design. Students work with digital audio workstations (DAWs) to create and integrate guitar parts. My student-centered approach caters to youth and adult learners. Sessions emphasize melody, harmony, rhythm, tone, and phrasing. Students practice creating layered textures and combining guitar with orchestral or electronic elements. I guide them in composing motifs, cues, and cinematic textures. Creativity, experimentation, and problem-solving are encouraged throughout lessons. Exercises build technical skills while fostering expressive musicality. Students develop confidence in both performing and recording for media projects. Lessons include stylistic interpretation and storytelling through music. Sessions are practical, engaging, and hands-on. Students practice real-world applications for film and video game scoring. I emphasize tone, dynamics, and expressive phrasing. Each session is tailored to the student’s goals. My aim is to help students bring cinematic and gaming worlds to life through guitar.

My teaching focuses on ear training and aural development for guitar. Students learn interval recognition, melodic dictation, and song transcription. I work with The Campfire Strummer and The Blues Seeker to design exercises that match their goals. Lessons emphasize picking out melodies, chords, and rhythmic patterns by ear. I combine listening, singing, and hands-on guitar exercises. Call-and-response and improvisation are core parts of lessons. I guide students in analyzing harmonic progressions and melodic phrasing. Each session is customized to skill level and learning pace. Exercises strengthen memory, pitch perception, and harmonic recognition. Students are encouraged to practice consistently to develop strong aural skills. Lessons include applying listening skills in composition and performance. Feedback is provided to ensure accuracy and progress. Exercises build both technical skills and musical intuition. Students gain confidence in transcribing and reproducing melodies and chords. I emphasize connecting theory with practical listening. Lessons are interactive, hands-on, and enjoyable. Students develop the ability to hear and understand music independently. My goal is to help students pick out melodies and harmonies with confidence.
