About Julia

Hi, I'm Julia! I grew up between languages, fluent in German, English and Russian. I just finished my Master's at King's College London, currently work at the Austria Foreign Ministry in London and am preparing for PhD applications.

Before my studies, I worked at a Big4 consultancy in Austria, Vienna. However, teaching has always been a big part of my life, and I've been tutoring German and English for 8 years alongside my studies and work.

I love helping people feel at home in a new language, and I'm always happy to share a bit of Austrian culture along the way!

About the lesson

Hi, I'm Julia! I teach German the way I wish I'd been taught languages at school: lots of speaking, lots of games, and no boring drills.

How I teach:
My lessons are not about drilling grammar tables and repeating vocabulary lists. I use games and interactive exercises that help you understand intuitively how German works. For example, we play "describe the word without saying it," and sometimes I let you take over the lesson and teach German to me. Explaining something to someone else is one of the best ways to really understand it. Grammar is still part of every lesson, but you learn it by using it.

My main goal is for you to speak German with confidence and be understood. If you are preparing for GCSE or A-level exams, I make sure you are fully ready for them too, while also building real speaking skills that last beyond the exam.

And if you're curious about Austrian German or a bit of Viennese dialect, I'd be very happy to teach you some. You'll be grateful for it during ski season!

Lesson length:
Lessons can last from 45 to 120 minutes. For students, 90 minutes with a break often works better, but we can agree on what suits you.

My experience:
I have been tutoring English and German for 8 years. Some of the nicest feedback I've received is parents telling me their kids feel more confident speaking German, both in class and outside of it.

All ages and all levels up to upper-intermediate (B2/C1), incl.
School students, including GCSE and A-level preparation

I was sceptical at first because my daughter had tried two tutors before and nothing really clicked. Julia was different from the first lesson. She took time to understand where my daughter was struggling, which turned out to be mostly confidence rather than knowledge, and she built lessons around that. By the time of her GCSE speaking exam, she was actually calm. As a parent, I can‘t ask for more than that.
