About Jane
I am an experienced, young-at-heart 59-year-old woman who has taught English for many years and also works as a freelance editor. I absolutely love teaching, and have done so online quite often. My passion is to see students of whatever age learn to love ideas; to read and question what they read; to use their imaginations to write stories, articles, and essays with flair and skill; to recognize the difference between a poor argument and a good one; and to love the structure of language, which means gaining a thorough understanding of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. I also love learners, whether they are brilliant or slow. I am endlessly patient, and will always encourage you, and find ways to get you to enjoy learning. I have a BA (majoring in Biblical Studies and Education) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, which probably help.

I will give you an excellent foundation in all aspects of English, which will stand you in good stead for your comprehension of all other subjects. I believe I teach in an imaginative, friendly, encouraging way, and will get you to love the subject - whether you are a home language speaker or second (or third) language speaker. Things we'll cover: English grammar (which can be fun), literature (novels, short stories, poetry, drama), public speaking, how to write well-structured paragraphs and essays, comprehension, idioms and proverbs, the difference between formal and informal English ... the list goes on. It's all about becoming a proficient and articulate speaker and writer, and a reader who not only reads with comprehension but loves reading. I have many years' experience and generally a good rapport with my students. All ages, all abilities! I also work as a freelance editor of books, blogs, and academic writing, so I do know my subject well.
