• 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  My interest in the French language began at an early age. I grew up listening to my mother recount stories about my grandfather, who possessed an exceptional command of French and served in several French-speaking countries. His knowledge, experience, and dedication left a lasting impression on me and inspired a deep admiration not only for the French language, but also for the cultures and traditions of the Francophone world.
  
  Although French is not my native language, I developed a strong affinity for it through years of study, practice, and cultural exploration. Over time, what began as curiosity evolved into a true passion and ultimately shaped my personal and professional path. In many ways, teaching French allows me to continue and honour the legacy that first inspired me.
  
  Today, one of the most rewarding aspects of my work is helping students discover the beauty, richness, and value of the French language while guiding them towards confidence and success in their own learning journey.

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  If I had to choose one historical figure who truly embodies the French language and culture, I would select Molière, widely regarded as one of the greatest playwrights in French literature and often referred to as “the Shakespeare of France.” His works have left a profound and lasting mark on French culture and continue to be studied and performed throughout the world.
  
  I particularly admire plays such as L’Avare and Les Femmes Savantes, which reveal his exceptional wit, sharp social observation, and deep understanding of human nature. Through satire and comedy, Molière was able to criticise the society of his time while creating works that remain remarkably relevant centuries later.
  
  To me, his writing perfectly reflects the elegance, richness, and intellectual depth of the French language, making him one of the most emblematic representatives of French culture.

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

  One quotation from French literature that has always resonated with me comes from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - Le Petit Prince: « On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux. » (“One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye.”)
  
  I find this phrase timeless and deeply meaningful. It reflects the sensitivity, humanity, and emotional intelligence that I admire in French literature and culture. French writers often explore profound ideas with remarkable elegance and simplicity, encouraging reflection, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of human experience: qualities that I value greatly.
  
  For me, it beautifully captures the intellectual depth, nuance, and poetic richness that make French so unique and inspiring.

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  French matters to me because it is far more than a means of communication; it is a gateway to a rich cultural, intellectual, and artistic heritage. Through the language, I have discovered literature, history, cinema, philosophy, and traditions that have profoundly enriched my understanding of the world.
  
  Learning French has allowed me to engage with different perspectives, cultures, and ways of thinking, making the experience both intellectually stimulating and personally meaningful. Over the years, I have developed a deep appreciation not only for the language itself, but also for the diversity and richness of the Francophone world.
  
  What continues to inspire me most is the way language creates connection. French has opened doors to meaningful cultural exchanges, memorable experiences, and opportunities that have shaped both my personal and professional life.

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  Many students initially find French pronunciation and grammar challenging. However, in my experience, the greatest obstacle is often a lack of confidence. Learners may hesitate to speak because they are afraid of making mistakes, even when they already possess the necessary knowledge and skills.
  
  I believe that progress comes through regular practice, exposure to authentic French, and, above all, a supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to express themselves freely. Making mistakes is an essential part of language learning, and confidence develops when learners are given the opportunity to use the language actively and consistently.
  
  Another challenge is maintaining the language over time. If French is not practised regularly, fluency can diminish surprisingly quickly. Learning a language is one achievement; keeping it alive through continuous exposure, curiosity, and communication is often an even greater one.

• 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  One of the most memorable experiences in my teaching career involved a student who had a strong understanding of French grammar but lacked the confidence to speak. Despite possessing the necessary language skills, the fear of making mistakes often prevented the student from participating in conversation.
  
  Around that time, I had completed a professional training programme at CAVILAM – Alliance Française, where I was introduced to a variety of theatre-inspired teaching techniques designed to encourage oral expression and spontaneous communication. Inspired by these methods, I began incorporating activities involving movement, role-play, voice work, and collaborative interaction into our lessons.
  
  Gradually, the student became more comfortable speaking French and started participating with increasing confidence and enthusiasm. Witnessing that transformation was deeply rewarding and reminded me that language learning is not only about mastering grammar and vocabulary, but also about creating an environment in which learners feel safe, motivated, and free to express themselves.
  
  It was a powerful lesson in the importance of creativity, confidence-building, and student-centred teaching.

• 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  As someone who enjoys travelling and discovering new cultures, my experiences living in Montreal and visiting Paris, Lyon, Quebec City, and other international destinations allowed me to engage with French beyond textbooks and classrooms. Immersing myself in environments where the language was naturally spoken helped me develop a more authentic and intuitive command of French.
  
  Travel also deepened my understanding of the relationship between language and culture. Each destination taught me something unique about history, traditions, architecture, and the ways in which language reflects a society’s identity and values.
  
  Experiencing French culture firsthand strengthened both my appreciation for the language and my passion for sharing it with others through teaching. These experiences continue to influence the way I approach language learning today: not simply as the study of vocabulary and grammar, but as a meaningful connection to people, cultures, and ideas.

  I believe what makes me a Superprof is my ability to combine strong linguistic and cultural knowledge with a genuine passion for teaching and student development. My experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds and profiles, combined with my training at CAVILAM – Alliance Française de Vichy and my passion for intercultural learning, allows me to make French accessible, practical, and enjoyable for learners at every stage. I strive to create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and carefully tailored to each student’s goals, learning style, and pace.
  
  Whether a student is preparing for examinations, learning French for travel or professional purposes, or studying the language out of personal interest, I adapt my approach to ensure that learning remains both effective and enjoyable. My aim is not only to teach French, but also to help students build confidence, develop independence, and cultivate a lasting appreciation for the language and its culture.
  
  Above all, I believe that successful teaching is built on encouragement, patience, and human connection. Creating a positive and motivating learning environment is something I consider essential in helping students reach their full potential.
