About Suma

I have spent the last 16+ years inside classrooms and private learning environments helping K-8 students navigate the exact academic and emotional hurdles they are facing today. My career has taught me that no two children learn the same way, and traditional schooling often misses the quiet student who is silently struggling or completely checked out.
My academic background in Child Psychology completely transformed how I teach. It allowed me to look past a blank test paper or a messy notebook and see what is actually happening underneath—whether it is executive dysfunction, a fear of making mistakes, or simply missing a foundational math building block from a previous grade. I don't just teach subjects; I study the student to figure out the exact key that unlocks their focus.
As a proud member of the Richmond community, my goal is to provide local families with a trusted, premium resource right in their neighborhood. I am deeply invested in making sure our local kids don't just survive the upcoming school year, but actually step into their classrooms in September feeling confident, capable, and genuinely motivated. When you work with me, you are getting an advocate who understands both the mechanics of learning and the heart of a child.

The Reality Check:
Most tutoring ads offer the same thing: "We follow a curriculum and do homework." But if standard curriculum methods were working for your child, you wouldn’t be looking for a tutor.

My approach is different because I don't treat children like empty buckets to fill with facts. With 16+ years of teaching experience and a degree in Child Psychology, I look at the behavioral roadblocks holding your child back.
Usually, a struggle in school isn't a lack of intelligence—it’s anxiety, fear of failure, or a specific cognitive bottleneck. I decode how your child's brain operates so we can turn school frustration into a sense of mastery.

The First Step: A Complimentary Diagnostic Assessment

I do not do traditional sales consultations. Instead, our very first 1-hour session is a completely free Diagnostic Assessment for your child. While they engage in low-pressure academic games and exercises, I analyze their foundational gaps and behavioral triggers. At the end, I sit down with you to deliver a transparent, honest breakdown of exactly where your child stands relative to Grade 8 standards, and what it will take to get them ahead.

What Our Active Sessions Look Like:
Once we know the gaps, our regular 60-minute sessions are fast-paced and highly engaging:

* The Launch (10 mins): High-success brain teasers to build instant confidence momentum.
* The Breakdown (35 mins): We tackle the hardest current concepts or homework using psychological strategies that eliminate frustration before a meltdown happens.
* The Blueprint (15 mins): Your child takes the lead, teaching the concept back to me to lock it into long-term memory.

This is specifically designed for K-8 students who are feeling overwhelmed, bored, or disconnected from school. Let's fix the root cause of the struggle together!
