About Adrian

I have been playing the drums for over ten years since I first picked up sticks at age 12. Since then, I have played in classical ensembles, a marching band, and 3 different groups as well as recorded several sessions with other musicians. I have over 8 years of training, having had the pleasure of studying under Venlo Odom, a master of the craft. Over the years, I have developed a versatile toolkit which I have used in performances of rock, pop, r&b, jazz, bossa nova, and funk music. For me, life has always been about music. Having the pleasure of sharing music with others, furthermore, has been a focal point for me throughout my life: including learning, performance and collaboration. Teaching is one such aspect for me which I recognise as having been the most informative of my musical direction and ability to learn and grow musically. I am eager to take on new students in the London area who feel they are ready to start their formal learning journey into drums and percussion.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology involves a mixture of listening, discussion, literature study, theory & technique, and conversation. However, I believe that passion and enjoyment are always the most essential enabling factors in learning any new skill, especially in music. I am looking to teach motivated students who are eager to challenge themselves such as to enable as much discovery as possible while having as much fun as possible. My lessons can range from 30-60 minutes. With new students, I usually take the first lesson to talk about learning goals, evaluate previous experience, and develop a lesson plan, as well as simply take the time to get to know each other. I am a 24-year-old master's student from the United States currently living in London while undertaking my studies. I have been playing percussion for over a decade and have performed/played in multiple genres and groups as well as orchestras and marching bands. I have experience with the timpani, concert snare, bass drum, auxiliary percussion, marimba, and xylophone, but my speciality is the drum set. Lastly, I have the most experience teaching ages 7-13, but I am open to teaching all ages. Whether you are learning for a particular purpose, such as to join an ensemble/performance or just for fun, I am happy to work with you and adapt lessons based on your own unique goals.
