About Elizabeth

I am an experienced Criminology tutor supporting students from A-Level through to postgraduate study, with two years' tutoring experience across a range of academic levels.

I have two years' tutoring experience and have supported 20+ students through Superprof alongside my wider tutoring work. This includes students studying Criminology at A-Level, undergraduate and Master's level, with support ranging from understanding criminological theory and research methods to developing stronger analysis and assessment technique.

My own academic background gives me a strong foundation across criminological theory, victimology, criminal justice, policing, punishment, gender and crime, domestic abuse, research methods and wider social-science approaches. I achieved First-Class Honours in my BSc Criminology, including 80% for my undergraduate dissertation, which received the Best Dissertation 2025 Award. I have since completed an MA Law (PGDL) with Distinction.

My approach combines subject knowledge with assessment technique. I want students not only to understand criminological theories, concepts and evidence, but to know how to apply, compare, evaluate and critically analyse them effectively in assessed work.

As a dyslexic graduate, I understand that large amounts of theory, research and terminology can sometimes feel difficult to organise and retain. I therefore teach in a clear and structured way, breaking complex material into manageable stages and adapting lessons to how each student learns best.

My aim is to build both understanding and independence. Whether a student is struggling with a particular topic, trying to improve their assessment performance or aiming for the highest grades, lessons are tailored to their individual goals.

Qualifications & Experience:

* BSc (Hons) Criminology — First-Class Honours
* Undergraduate dissertation — 80%
* Best Dissertation 2025 Award
* MA Law (PGDL) — Distinction
* Two years' tutoring experience
* 20+ students supported through Superprof

Lessons are tailored to the student's level, course or exam board, current understanding and individual academic goals. I support Criminology students from A-Level through to undergraduate and postgraduate study.

At the beginning of tuition, we identify the areas where support will be most useful. This might involve strengthening subject knowledge, working through a difficult theory or topic, developing assessment technique, improving critical analysis or preparing for an upcoming assignment or examination.

I can provide support across a broad range of Criminology topics, including:

* Criminological theories and perspectives
* Crime and deviance
* Victimology
* Gender, sexuality and crime
* Domestic abuse and interpersonal violence
* Policing
* Criminal justice systems
* Punishment and prisons
* Youth crime
* Media and crime
* Research methods
* Qualitative and quantitative research

For A-Level students, sessions can focus on understanding course content, applying theories and evidence, developing analysis and evaluation, planning extended answers and improving exam technique. Lessons are adapted to the student's specification and assessment requirements.

For university students, sessions can go further into theoretical debates, critical analysis, research methods and the application of criminological literature. I can help students understand assessment questions, plan arguments, engage critically with academic sources and identify how to move beyond description towards stronger university-level analysis.

Depending on the student's needs, sessions may include:

* Breaking down difficult theories and concepts
* Comparing and evaluating criminological perspectives
* Applying theories to contemporary examples
* Essay and assessment planning
* Developing critical analysis and evaluation
* Understanding marking criteria
* Working through lecturer or teacher feedback
* Reviewing the student's own draft work
* Research methods and research design
* Revision and examination preparation
* Building confidence with challenging topics

A key focus of my teaching is helping students bridge the gap between knowing Criminology and performing well in Criminology assessments. I explain not only what theories and research mean, but how students can use that knowledge effectively to answer the particular question they have been asked.

This support may be particularly useful if you:

* find particular criminological theories difficult to understand or distinguish;
* know the content but struggle to apply or evaluate it;
* receive feedback that your work is too descriptive;
* struggle to structure essays or extended answers;
* find research methods difficult;
* want to improve your exam or assessment technique;
* need help responding to feedback; or
* are aiming to move into a higher grade band.

Lessons typically last 60 minutes, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate.

For students undertaking a full dissertation or major independent research project, I also offer separate specialist dissertation support.
