About Yihan

Bringing tradition into modern life — finding inner peace and the flow of thought through the art of writing. Hi! My name is Miya. I graduated from UNSW with a Master’s degree in Curating and Cultural Leadership and have been working in the arts and cultural sector for several years. I have studied Chinese calligraphy for over 15 years, mastering the four main styles (篆 Zhuan, 隶 Li, 楷 Kai, 行 Xing), with a strong focus on Kai script. For me, calligraphy is not only a traditional art form but also a way to connect with culture, focus the mind, and find balance in daily life.

About the lesson

In my classes, I mainly teach brush calligraphy through demonstrations, explanations, and individual feedback. Lessons are tailored to each student’s pace and interests, and beginners are warmly welcome. Each class is usually 60 minutes (or 120 minutes upon request) to allow plenty of time for practice. I also introduce the history and stories of Chinese characters, the “Four Treasures of the Study” (brush, ink, paper, inkstone), and related literati arts such as seal carving. All stationery is provided in the class. Classes are available on weekday evenings and weekends by appointment. Fees: $30 per person for one class, $55 for two people or two-hour class. I would love to share my passion for calligraphy with you, and I can also offer Chinese language learning alongside calligraphy if desired.
