About Palmer
I am an experienced piano tutor with a strong academic background and a passion for teaching music. I hold Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music, giving me expertise in both theory and performance. I have taught students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced learners preparing for exams, recitals, and competitions. My lessons are student-centred, engaging, and tailored to each individual’s goals and abilities. I use real-life examples and case studies to make rhythm, melody, and harmony understandable and relatable. Motivation is central to my teaching, and I encourage students to set goals, monitor progress, and celebrate achievements. Problem-solving is integrated into lessons to develop critical thinking and independence. I emphasise integrity, creating a safe, honest, and supportive learning environment. I am flexible, adjusting lessons to each student’s pace, learning style, and objectives. Alongside piano, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and composition. I prepare students for exams, competitions, and performances while fostering creativity, confidence, and discipline. Lessons are offered online or in-person for all ages. I focus on building technical skill, expressive playing, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Each lesson is structured, enjoyable, and rewarding. My ultimate goal is to nurture skilled, confident, and passionate musicians.

My teaching methodology is designed to make piano learning enjoyable, meaningful, and effective for all students. For instance, I show how rhythm reflects natural patterns in speech and movement, and how harmony can be seen as a collaboration between different voices. I place strong emphasis on motivation, encouraging students to set clear goals, track progress, and celebrate achievements to build confidence and maintain enthusiasm for learning. Problem-solving is a core element of my lessons, guiding students to analyse difficulties, experiment with solutions, and develop critical thinking skills that enhance both musicality and independence. I teach with integrity, providing a respectful, honest, and encouraging environment where students can feel safe to take risks and learn from mistakes. I also offer flexibility, tailoring lessons to each student’s pace, learning style, and personal interests. In addition to piano, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and basic composition. Lessons are available online or in-person for students of all ages. My aim is to help students build technical skills, develop musical expression, and cultivate a lifelong love for music in a supportive, motivating, and engaging environment.
