About Nikita

25 year old Londoner born and bred, have plenty of experience interacting on a social level with boys and girls of all ages from 10-25. As mentioned before, I was raised in a multi-cultural and cosmopolitan community. I am very curious about foreign cultures and this inspired in me a deep respect for languages not just as a means of communication but also as an accurate window into other cultures. I developed a passion for learning other languages, so much so that I ended up studying only languages for A-levels - French, Russian and Latin.
I mentored 4th and 5th form high school students in French and Latin, giving me extensive experience into teaching languages to younger students.

About the lesson

I believe the most effective way of teaching is enabling students to understand the fundamental mechanisms of their subject clearly and concisely - in this case, french grammar and semantics. My methodology is to avoid overwhelming students with tables and 'fill-in-the-gaps' exercises. Instead, my focus is on getting the students to speak about a range of topics in French. this I do by engaging the student in conversation that is on a level suited to his oral skills. I break up these conversations into bitesize lessons in grammar and vocabulary based on the conversation we have just been having.
My philosophy is that if you treat your student like an adult, you will earn his respect and that will create a positive learning environment. I start each lesson by answering any specific questions a student might have.
My lessons typically last 1/2 hour but I am happy to do longer if the student requests it. My lessons are catered mostly to GCSE and Pre-GCSE students.
My experiences are:
undertaking a 20 credit module in CFLS1F41 (French Level 4); providing informal tutor lessons to pre-GCSE and 1st Year GCSE students in French and Latin; graduating with A*, A* and A in A-level French, Russian, and Latin respectively

On a personal level, I come from a multi-lingual family, which exposed me from an early age to the challenges of speaking and understanding a non-native language. I learnt through school and family to speak Russian, and now I am semi-fluent in it.
