About Roxanne

My name is Roxanne. I am 35. I have the privilege of being called mum by a precious 7 yr old boy and teacher by my incredible 4 students. I never thought that teaching would be my "calling" in life until the worldwide pandemic hit our country last year. I was thrown in the deep end and had to home-school my son through his foundational grade 1 phase. It was a learning experience for both of us and opened a passion inside me to grown and continue on this teaching journey. He was welcomed back to school this year as a top student. With that said I over achieved my goals as a "mom teacher"with no experience other than bringing up my child in the best way I could and looking after others children when they needed my help.
I moved to the Freestate which is an Afrikaans town, 5 years ago and because English is not the native language here I struggled to find an Admin job. After my year of home-schooling, I decided to use my English language, grammar and writing skills to my advantage. I was offered a job to tutor children at a tutor centre and teach them their full impaq syllabus in English. I have 4 students in my class ranging from 7 years to 9 years. I also assist with the autistic children at the centre. Teaching has opened up a whole new world in my life and has made me realise what I have actually always wanted to do. I want to grow peoples knowledge, expand their vocabulary and help them gain more insight into our English language. Together we can strive to be experts.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are fun and based on the following: problem solving, use of illustrations and visuals, games, story-telling, writing, show and tell, repetition. My experience has shown me that when an individual has fun and is kept excited and motivated their brains automatically absorb and store more information.
