About Kathy
Hi, I’m Kathy! I hold a B.A. in English with a concentration in Secondary Education from Providence College and an M.Ed. from Boston College. I’ve spent the last six years teaching middle school English Language Arts (grades 6–8) across public and private schools in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
I’ve taught the full range of the ELA curriculum — literature analysis, grammar and writing mechanics, essay composition, and reading comprehension — to students at very different skill levels. My classroom experience has taught me how to connect with middle schoolers during a time when their confidence in reading and writing is often fragile. I’m passionate about helping students who feel stuck or discouraged find their voice again and see themselves as capable writers and readers.

My tutoring approach focuses on meeting each student exactly where they are. I break larger writing assignments into smaller, manageable steps, model my thinking process when analyzing texts, and provide frequent, low-stakes practice opportunities before high-stakes work.
Whether we’re targeting essay organization, textual evidence, grammar, reading stamina, or overall writing confidence, we’ll identify the specific gaps and build a clear, personalized plan. I emphasize building trust first so students feel supported rather than judged.
I especially enjoy working with middle schoolers who need help with an upcoming essay, ongoing reading comprehension support, or steady, long-term growth in their writing skills. I’d love to partner with you or your child—feel free to reach out with any questions!
