About Victoria
I’m an English teacher and counsellor who’s worked in many different settings and roles in education, including:
- mainstream secondary schools (class teacher and intervention teacher)
- refugee centre
- community college sixth form (alternative to mainstream education)
- education & pastoral co-ordinator
- EHCP lead
- GCSE exam marker
- staff development mentor
For much of my career I’ve also worked as a private tutor alongside these roles.
I’m coming back from maternity leave and looking for a handful of tutoring students to support.

I’ve worked in education for over a decade in a multitude of roles and settings (feel free to ask for my CV!) and so I know how to pass an English exam.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to quickly understand where someone is, academically and personally, and how to help them get to where they want to be. Then the fun* part is working together to make sure they get there!
Everyone is different, so some students might need purely academic tips and practice to get the outcome they want whereas others might need a little more pastoral support to make sure they’re in the best position to achieve their best results. Truth be told, we’re probably all somewhere in the middle.
I tailor each session to the individual but I consistently provide a warm and supportive environment where essential skills are developed and progress is monitored.
Examples of people I’ve been lucky enough to work with are:
- students working towards a specific exam grade
- students with SEN and/or neurodiversity
- students with anxiety
- school refusers/students outside of traditional education
- students with EAL, including refugees and UASC (I have a CELTA qualification)
- looked after children
- students with social, emotional or behavioural needs
- students who, let’s be honest, just find English at school a little boring and need a bit of motivation
*”fun” used as generously as possible - I know not every teenager’s dream is to work on their English for an hour. Sub ‘bearable’ if that’s what we’re aiming for.
