About Julia
I've taught English as an additional language for 30+ years with migrants, refugees, international students and kids! I've tutored privately, taught in language schools from beginners to advanced English and IELTS and direct entry programs in universities. I have qualifications in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, primary and adult education and counselling. I've also focused on bringing together my love of psychology and education to help students manage stress and nerves, as this was something that held me back for many years.

I currently teach English as an additional language at Griffith University with students that need to improve their English and acquire the skills needed to enter university. Once in their degrees, I provide ongoing consultations where we focus on academic language skills such as structuring assignments effectively, expressing ideas clearly and referencing appropriately. I also work with PhD students on these same skills as we edit their work. Just for fun, I am also an IELTS speaking examiner. Whilst editing students’ assessments, they typically benefit from the following: better grammar and pronunciation, a wider range of academic vocabulary, strategies to cope with the volume of reading material, techniques to start writing when overwhelmed, the structure of paragraphs and essays, how to use in-text citations and compile a reference list. In addition, they master time management, experience increased confidence with their speaking and learn strategies to cope with writer’s block, culture shock, loneliness and overwhelm. Details
First lesson is half an hour FREEEEE. If you need me to travel to you, there will be an additional fee to cover time and petrol costs. Lessons can be arranged in the evenings or on weekends as needed. Tuition fees are paid directly into my bank account as I don't use PayPal.
