About Zainab

I'm an English Pronunciation/Accent Reduction Specialist interested in working with passionate people.

I've been in the field of phonetics and pronunciation for over 17 years and have been teaching professionally since 2011. Both teaching and phonetics are a great passion so I thoroughly enjoy my day job and do my utmost in meeting my clients' needs. I have experience in working with students from a huge range of language backgrounds, (including Latin and Eastern European, East and South Asian, Arabic and African languages) and I'm continuously growing my portfolio. Seeing my clients blossom in confidence due to their new found ability to communicate clearly is an absolute delight.

I enjoy travelling for my job and so far I have travelled to Qatar to teach a private course, Germany to teach a group intensive course and Spain to run a teacher training programme for an English department.

About the lesson

I use a phonetics based approach to my teaching which involves teaching mouth positions for all the sounds of English, connected speech processed, as well as stress and intonation. But, in addition, my valuable students make every class different and unique for me - classes are tailor made and relevant materials are provided. Your experience with me is of uber importance so I take into account your learning style, pace and goals to help me perfect the sessions. What works for one student, will not necessary work for another so I see it as as prerogative that I pay attention to all these details to help my clients achieve their potential.

Here's what my lessons would look like:

1) Phonetic Analysis: Assess student's pronunciation level, identifying specific accent patterns or challenges.

2) Customise Instruction: Create personalised lesson plans to address the unique needs of pronunciation based on your native language and specific pronunciation issues.

3) Speech Sounds Training: Teach the correct pronunciation of individual sounds, joining rules, intonation, stress patterns to enhance overall clarity.

4) Production Exercises: Engage students in listening/reading/production activities to reinforce correct pronunciation and develop muscle memory.

5) Accent Modification Techniques: Introduce techniques and strategies to modify accent features, such as vowel and consonant sounds, linking, and reduction of speech patterns.

6) Real-world Application: Teach you to practically apply of learned skills in real-life scenarios to build confidence.
