About Adam
I am currently studying for a BA in English Literature. I have had a passion for English from a young age, and have tutored voluntarily since age 16. Peers often ask me to proofread/edit their essays, resulting in improved progress and higher grades. I achieved A*s in English language and literature at A Level. I have experience working in school environments as a teaching assistant, leading group activities which were designed to challenge students and maximise their potential for learning development. I also write creatively for my own enjoyment, giving me an advanced understanding of the relationship between form and content (with a particular interest in poetry).

No matter the level of study, I begin each session by establishing what is already known by the student and base our aims for the session on this. From there I structure each session to the best method for the student, whether this be to go through a task together or to allow the student more independence and check in as we go along. Ultimately, my aim is not to change the way a student works, but to identify the method by which they learn best and apply this to the subject (e.g. I will not force a creative methodology on a student who works with a more traditionally academic methodology or vice versa). If I am ever asked to proofread essays I will do so thoroughly, providing extensive feedback. I prefer to do this between sessions to allow me more time to reflect on what went well and suggest criteria to improve upon, but I am also happy to provide in-depth live marking services with students there, giving feedback as I mark.

Details
My tuition fee will not change based on the level of the student I am tutoring. If I am required to travel by public transport I would like the cost of travel to be added on to the tuition cost (rather than applying a flat rate I will discuss this dependent on travel cost, with receipts to prove the cost of travel). For cancellations a 24-hour notice period would be greatly appreciated, and if students consistently cancel at the last minute with no good excuse then continuation of lessons will have to be discussed. I will always attempt to give 24-hour notice of cancellation in return.
