About Colleen
Upon completion of my B.A. degree from Flagler College, I began teaching English and Reading at my former high school, Pedro Menendez, located in St. Augustine, Florida. As a result of my commitment and diligence to the craft, I was deemed a highly effective teacher by the end of my second year. Additionally, I was one of only 29 Flagler College graduates to receive the distinction as a High Impact Teacher in 2016, a merit granted by the Florida Department of Education.
While pursuing my M.A. degree at the University of North Florida, I served as a Graduate Assistant in the English Department, providing instruction to students in an ENC 1101 course. My workshops focused on refining grammatical writing skills and improving effectiveness and clarity of rhetoric, while offering academic advice and encouragement in the process.

My initial years of teaching have been spent with ninth and tenth grade Intensive Reading, English, and English Honors students at my former high school in St. Augustine, Florida—a unique experience I will not soon forget. Primarily, major learning objectives in my classroom have focused on motivating students to create authentic connections with various texts we read, and then using those connections to strengthen their writing skills. Reading comprehension has become the core of our curriculum, as well as the vehicle through which greater opportunities for successful writing have developed.
