About Tomos

I am a Master's level graduate with a degree in English Literature. My passions involve reading and writing - two subjects that I see as engaging the imagination and can offer excellent prospects if used correctly.
I would say I was an average student in high school. This was mainly because I felt my education was not engaging enough to inspire me to learn. I was fortunate to study my Undergraduate degree and eventually obtain a Master's degree. While I had originally studied history, I found my passion for English literature and pursued this as my main subject.
I have only recently considered tutoring since I feel as though I have enough knowledge and expertise in my fields to teach others. This, combined with my conscientious attitude, has inspired me to help others with their learning and development.

About the lesson

I like my lessons to be tailored for the needs and personality for each of my students. I understand that learning may be a little boring at times, so I make sure that this never happens.

To ensure this, I place an emphasis on discovering how my students like to learn (whether this be through conversation, visuals, reading, writing, or a combination of these).

Not only do I teach my subject matter of English, I also like to incorporate teaching skills that will help my students succeed in the wider world.

My current experience of tutoring is mainly derived from my work as an editor. In this position, I have helped my writers construct successful blog articles, and have taught them ways to further develop their skills as writers and critical thinkers.

While I mainly have experience with university-level tutoring, I am able to simplify my methods for younger (GCSE and A Level) levels.

Perfect! Tomos is intuitive to the students needs and is a warm and generous educator. He is imaginative in understanding how best to reach my son's area of needs and makes his classes creative and fun. I can highly recommend him.

Hi Celeste, had a really great introductory session with you! Your reading and comprehension skills are fantastic - now we just need to work on building your confidence speaking and communicating in English. It's tough not being in an environment where you can regularly speak, so for now, work on getting used to just speaking English sounds, and making some of your sentences a little more concise (this will help you to expand your vocabulary). Another thing we discussed was making a list of template sentences you can quickly turn to so that you can communicate without as many pauses. Feel free to get creative in any way to discover how to communicate clearly in English :) Anyway, you're a bright student and it was a pleasure to talk during the lesson. Hopefully see you soon!
