I have taught English/ESL at public schools for over 15 years—and over 6 years for online English/ESL schools. I have taught all grade levels (elementary, middle and high schools), including adult schools. I have a Master's degree in English. I also have a TESL certificate and teaching licenses in English/ESL.

I have worked as a Reading Coach at elementary schools. I have taught students how to read with lesson plans that focused on phonemic awareness, phonics, and reading fluency. Using the Whole Language approach, not only did students learn how to read, but they also learned how to spell and write at the same time! I have taught literature and essay writing to middle and high school students to help them get better grades in English/ESL classes and prepare them for exams (high school entrance exams for middle school students and SAT exams for high school students). I have used lesson plans that focused on vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension. Middle school students read books by O'Dell (Island of the Blue Dolphins), Hosseini (The Kite Runner), Alcott (Little Women), Burnett (The Secret Garden), Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird), and Rowling (the Harry Potter books). High school students read books by Hemingway (The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms), Steinbeck (The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden), Sinclair (The Jungle), Faulkner (As I Lay Dying, The Sound and the Fury), and Dostoevsky (Crime and Punishment). Middle and high school students wrote essays based on the books they read.
At adult schools and English language schools, I have helped students improve their reading, writing and communication skills for work, the citizenship test or their own interest. I have used lesson plans that focused on phonemic awareness, phonics, grammar, vocabulary, and reading fluency/comprehension. By learning how to do practical things like interviewing for a job, going to a doctor's appointment, or learning to become an American citizen, students improved their English skills. I used these same lesson plans for online students (elementary, middle and high school) and adults.
