About Brandon

I am currently new to the Inverness area, having moved from England, working as a secondary school teacher based in the West Yorkshire, Calderdale area for the past 3 years. In this time, I have taught students aged 11-18 in the adjoining Sixth Form. Having taught English and Drama at KS3 and KS4, I am not only knowledgeable regarding the subject content but also the expectations highlighted in the GCSE specification. I have also had 2 years experience teaching drama A-level , with progress this year, having ventured into A Level psychology. I have even starred on the CBBC show Our School in 2020, having narrated all 24 episodes and been chosen to showcase my teaching as a main professional within a classroom setting.

My experience of dealing with students in an educational setting is not limited to working within a secondary school, having owned a musical theatre company, (tutoring students aged 7-16) prior to this. The National Citizen Service also gave me further experience , having worked as a team leader for several years in a programme designed to educate young people, hoping to transform them from youth to adulthood.
I would consider myself as: confident, empathetic, passionate and dynamic in my approach to teaching. It is important to recognise that every child is different whether that be in their approach to learning, their interests within education, their ability to understand or even their ability to socialise and coherently express their thoughts and opinions. I therefore tailor my tuition material to each individual and their needs , hoping to spark interest by using exploration through drama or their own independent interests as a way in. All material is differenciated but allows for appropriate challenge, linking directly to the marking scheme.

My reason for teaching lies in my ambition of maintaining this passion for the spoken and written word, aiming to provide a good role model for those who may need one.

About the lesson

I have a very individualised approach to teaching, finding common ground between the student and the learning material. I make the lessons creative and enjoyable, often incorporating elements of popular culture and drama as useful vehicles that aid student progression. Each lesson is specific to the specification and core skills provide the foundation of every session.
