About Francis

I am 43 years old. I am a father of two girls and have taught for 20 years. I have always been a writer. Since a young boy, I have always written. Some have been moments I wanted to capture from a memory and keep its essence alive. In other cases I wrote to explore ideas and my point of view, in essays. I have regarded writing as sacred and so special. The closest I have felt to strangers has been by really taking in the words they have written. I have always enjoyed stories, poetry and plays and have appreciated their uniqueness and their gift of sharing. I decided to study English and Drama at University and then to go and teach because I wanted to share my passion for the subject with others. I have always strived to encourage young writers and have been so privileged to have read some wonderful works over the years.

About the lesson

I teach in a very easygoing manner. I aim to help any willing student, regardless of age or academic caliber, to grow in confidence, and to be exposed to a very engaging body of literary sources that piques the student's interest for life. I believe that every student should aim to develop their own writing ability, to see themselves as a writer and be made aware of writing techniques that have been used by the 'greats' to shape ideas, develop plot and character and ultimately, enhance meaning and message. I want my students to develop their ability to engage effectively with literature so that they are able to get the full meaning of what they get exposed to with confidence. Students can expect to feel fulfilled and inspired by my lessons. I need only a willing student.
