The student is the focal point of my lesson planning:
1. Academic assessment is built in to conversation
a. Verbal and written assessment occur during conversation
b. Student understanding is built in to a concept diagram
2. Student's conceptual understanding goal is determined
3. A concept road map to success is built
3a. Remaining tutoring time is spent discussing problems, diagramming concepts, and solving them to build conceptual understanding
4. If necessary, then additional tutoring sessions are planned to achieve success
4a. Students are assessed on their ability to meet examination criteria (problem time trials)
4b. After a time trial, incorrect responses to questions are discussed individually both emotionally (student perspective) and computationally (written perspective), which helps identify the root cause
