About Matthew
I am an experienced saxophone tutor with 17 years of teaching college students. My approach to teaching focuses on simplicity, consistency, and creativity. I aim to make every lesson easy to follow while helping students grow steadily and confidently.
My lessons cover tone development, breathing techniques, scales, rhythm practice, and expressive playing. I encourage students to explore improvisation and musical interpretation so they can develop their own playing style. Real-world music examples help students understand how practice connects to real performances.
I use innovative teaching methods such as recorded practice reviews, guided routines, and interactive play-along sessions. I also teach music theory, ear training, and reading skills to support complete musical growth.
I create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable learning and improving at their own pace. My goal is to help students enjoy saxophone while becoming skilled and confident musicians.

My Saxophone teaching style focuses on clear understanding, creativity, and steady improvement. I believe learning music should be enjoyable but also disciplined. Lessons are designed to strengthen fundamentals such as breath support, tone clarity, finger movement, articulation, rhythm, and reading music. I use simple explanations and step-by-step guidance to ensure students feel confident at every stage.
Creativity is encouraged through sound exploration, improvisation practice, and learning songs that match the student’s interest. I act as a mentor by guiding students with patience, offering encouragement, and helping them build confidence in their abilities. Critical thinking is developed by teaching students how to understand musical structure, rhythm patterns, and scale relationships.
Accountability is a core part of my teaching approach. I provide clear practice plans, review progress regularly, and set achievable goals. Students learn responsibility and consistency in their practice habits. Along with Saxophone, I also teach Music Theory, Sight Reading, Rhythm Training, and Ear Development to support musical growth.
