About Jai
I am a full time Performance Coach and Academic Tutor with a uniquely successful approach. As well as being an excellent teacher academically, I also place emphasis on mindset and strategy. I have a track record of helping students not only meet their targets but surpass them. My work goes beyond simply going through content in a syllabus, and the depth of my work has been described as "on a completely different level to the average tutor" by one existing client of three years.
By introducing students to strategies such as working "smarter not harder", using motivational techniques and by building strong rapport I have been able to completely change the way students view education. Furthermore, such a shift in perspective not only helps students pass exams, it also sets them up for success in life.
Academically, I am a highly experienced English, History, Politics, Philosophy and Psychology tutor. However, my specialist fields are Criminal Justice and Law, which I am educated to LLM level in. For my LLM at University of Leeds I received a Distinction and for my LLB at Birkbeck, University of London I received First Class Honours. I have also had a chapter published by SAGE in a book entitled "Addiction: A Biopsychosocial Perspective". In this chapter I share my socio-legal opinion on the issue of how governments should tackle crime caused by addiction.
As well as my excellent academic record I have extensive experience working in this field. I have worked in multiple London prisons on education and rehabilitation projects, and subsequently I managed a nationwide family liaison service in courts. I also possess strong risk management experience and I authored risk assessments for two London Prisons. I am a qualified Personal Performance Coach and a Mediator (in both Commercial and Family contexts).
My reason for leaving this career path and pursuing education and wellness full time was a deeply held belief that arming young people with a strong education, mental strength and wellbeing is hugely important for our society. In the course of my work I have seen students who had previously been "written off" transform their lives and go on to become highly successful. For example, a former student of mine who had been told at school he was unlikely to pass his GCSE's due to demotivation is now simultaneously balancing training as a Dentist and playing football for a Championship level team. Another student who suffered severe depression during the Covid-19 pandemic was eventually able to achieve outstanding grades at A-Level, which he credits in large part to the work that we did.
Outside of my work, I am an avid chess player, boxer and athlete. I believe physical health is also strongly linked to mental wellness and academic performance, and I have in the past even incorporated physical training into a tuition regime.
