About Aryia
Hi, I'm Aryia, a recent graduate of the University of Edinburgh, where I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE). English and Modern Studies were two of my favourite subjects at school, and that enthusiasm has stayed with me since. I'm looking for the chance to pass it on to the next group of students working towards their exams.
Alongside my studies, I've held mentoring roles where I supported and guided other students through structured group work. I found I genuinely enjoyed helping people build confidence in their own understanding, rather than just handing them answers.
I know how demanding National 5, Higher, and exam season more broadly can feel, and my aim is to make lessons feel supportive and focused, so students leave each session clearer on the material and more confident in their own ability.

I believe it is important to build a genuine understanding of the topic, rather than memorising facts for exams. I start each topic by checking what a student already knows and what they wish to learn. I work through past paper questions and mark schemes together with students so they learn what examiners are looking for at each grade. For English, this means close textual analysis and structured essay planning. For Modern Studies, it's about being able to use specific evidence and link it to a wider argument.
Lessons typically run for one hour, with regular shorter check-ins on request during exam season.
As a recent University of Edinburgh graduate (PPE), I've mentored students in a structured setting through my role at a student-led think tank. There, I restructured sessions to ensure every student contributed and understood the material - not just the most confident ones. That same principle carries into tutoring: I adapt pace and explanation style to the individual rather than running a fixed script.
I teach National 5 and Higher English, and National 5 to Higher Modern Studies. I'm happy to work with S3–S5 pupils at any of those stages.
