About Earl
(concealed information)
Earl Rina is a Filipino‑Canadian interdisciplinary visual artist, curator, and instructor whose practice spans painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture. They hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of San Carlos College of Nursing and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba’s School of Art.
Drawing on both technical skill and curatorial insight, Earl Rina integrates concept and presentation across media, working independently and in collaboration with contemporary artists. Their work investigates movement, emotional landscapes, natural patterns, symbolic environments, and narrative structures. Through vibrant colour, impressionistic gestures, and playful yet intentional compositions, Earl Rina explores the complexities of daily life, its emotional spectrum, interpersonal dynamics, and subtle cultural negotiations.
Much of Earl Rina’s practice considers the relationship between the human figure and the natural world. In series such as Playful Picturesque, dancing figures move fluidly through vivid and imaginative environments, often blurring the boundaries between body and landscape. These scenes invite viewers into spaces where movement, memory, and nature intertwine, suggesting worlds shaped by emotion, place, and lived experience.
Identity remains central to Earl Rina’s work. Rooted in their Filipino‑Canadian heritage and 2SLGBTQ+ experience, their art emphasizes joy, visibility, and belonging while thoughtfully addressing themes of sexuality, cultural identity, and environmental connection. By highlighting the beauty and significance of the natural world, Earl Rina encourages viewers to reflect on their own place within ecological and cultural systems.
At its core, Earl Rina’s practice is both intimate and expansive, offering moments of personal reflection while fostering broader conversations about the intersections between culture, identity, environment, and the individuals who navigate them.
