About Dylan
After bursting onto the scene in 2015, Dylan has made a name for himself in not only the metal scene, but the music scene in general.
Now, most well known for his role as the drummer of South African death metal titans, The Fallen Prophets, he has made himself available to spread his knowledge of music history and theory with passionate and exciting lessons catered to the individual.
With his distinction in Grade 8 in Drumkit Performance, and experience performing for a multitude of various acts, he is capable of not only playing, but a master at teaching every style/genre of music.
One thing commonly forgotten, is to make sure your teacher of choice is also STILL a student of the art.
No matter how great the drummer is, it is important to be ever progressing and evolving in this industry, especially as a teacher, because then you are able to connect with students on a more personal level as you are in a learning state of mind as well.
Dylan is currently taking the necessary steps to master the art of jazz drumming! Although well versed in the fundamentals of jazz, becoming a pro in this genre takes some SERIOUS practice… (and patience)
The beauty of mastering all the different type of genres, whether it be jazz, metal, gospel, RNB, Hip Hop, Reggae etc, is to be able to use your favourite elements of each genre, not only to enjoy and play along to all the genres, but to incorporate your favourite parts of the style into your own unique style of playing.

MANY STUDENTS STARTING TO LEARN THE DRUMS, FIND THEMSELVES WONDERING IF THEY REALLY NEED A TEACHER. IS IT OKAY TO SELF LEARN?
Drumming is one of those things that takes up a lot of the brains capacity, especially when learning new patterns, or new techniques. It’s quite easy to get lost in the technicality, and lose all the musicality.
Having an experienced tutor who knows the journey of starting as a beginner drummer, not only helps one stay disciplined, but offers a professional ear that examines every little piece of progress that you make, as well as take note of the slight adjustments you could make.
Concerning technique, developing habits due to muscle memory is part of the journey. However, it is not easy to UNLEARN bad habits. A professional tutor will help you steer clear of developing bad habits and maintain musicality throughout your learning journey.
