About Abigail
I am education major finishing my degree in elementary education with middle school math and English. Not only have I been working with children for over 10 years, I am also an experienced tutor. I have tutored elementary level general education, English language learners in reading, and middle school level math and English. While tutoring I have also worked with students on homework help and guidance and study skills.

I do not have a one-size-fits-all teaching approach. I am a firm believer that all students are unique and learn differently. With younger students I ask parents what their child enjoys and activities they excel in at school. With older students I let them tell me how they prefer to learn. With this information I find materials and activities that help students understand the concept. This might include hands on activities, games, short videos, diagrams, or even a combination of different methods. If my teaching method doesn’t work, I want my students to tell me so we can try something new. I also believe that students are not passive learners. Research tells us that most students do better when they are actively engaged in their learning in one way or another. When I’m working with students, I’m not doing all the talking. I ask questions that guide students to the answer, offering explanations for confusion and misconceptions. I strongly believe that by allowing students to lead in their learning with me as a guide in right direction, they are more likely to understand complex topics and remember them.
