About Zhanglin
I am a professional pianist and piano educator with a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance from Arizona State University. I have studied piano professionally since the age of four and have received extensive training from distinguished teachers at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Interlochen Arts Academy, Bowling Green State University, California State University, Northridge, and Arizona State University.
I have received numerous awards in piano competitions in the United States, China, and internationally, including First Prize in the MTNA Ohio Young Artist Piano Competition, First Prize in the Charleston International Romantic Music Competition, First Prize at the Leman Lake International Piano Competition, Second Prize and the Chopin Sonata Award at the Chopin Avenue International Piano Competition, and the 2026 Oracle Chamber Music Competition with the Arizona Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters. I was also a semifinalist in the prestigious Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Piano Competition in New York.
As an educator, I currently teach piano at East Valley Yamaha Music School and previously served as a Piano Teaching Assistant at California State University, Northridge. I have experience teaching students of different ages and levels, from young beginners to advanced pianists. I also work with students preparing for competitions, examinations, auditions, recitals, and college or conservatory applications.
My teaching philosophy combines strong technical training with musical expression and individualized instruction. I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching to each student's goals, abilities, and learning style. In addition to piano technique and repertoire, lessons can include sight-reading, music theory, ear training, musical interpretation, and performance preparation.
Whether you are a complete beginner, an adult learning piano for enjoyment, a student preparing for a competition, or an advanced pianist pursuing professional musical training, I will help you build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, and become a more independent and expressive musician.

I offer personalized piano lessons for students of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to advanced pianists preparing for competitions, auditions, conservatory applications, or music school programs.
I recently graduated from Arizona State University with a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance. I have studied piano professionally since the age of four and have received training from distinguished teachers at Sichuan Conservatory of Music Middle School, Interlochen Arts Academy, Bowling Green State University, California State University, Northridge, and ASU.
My teaching approach is individualized and student-centered. Every student has different goals, learning styles, and strengths, so I design lessons according to each student's needs. Lessons can include technique, musical interpretation, sight-reading, music theory, ear training, repertoire, and performance preparation.
For younger students, I focus on building a strong foundation while keeping lessons engaging and encouraging. For advanced students, I provide detailed guidance on interpretation, technique, performance skills, and competition preparation.
I also have experience working with students preparing for piano competitions, auditions, examinations, and college or conservatory applications. My goal is not only to help students play the notes correctly, but also to develop their musical understanding, confidence, independence, and love of music.
