About Ricky

I started my musical journey when I was 14, teaching myself to play the piano. During this time, I fell in love with Classical and Jazz music, and started to compose, improvise and orchestrate in my free time outside of school. Music quickly turned into my greatest passion, and after almost 4 years of practising and teaching myself, I got into Berklee College of Music, which I have now graduated from, with a degree in Film & Media Composition, and Game and Interactive Media Composition.

Now, in my own practice I mainly use composition, free improvisation, and poetry as a way to explore the organic and boundless nature of reality. I like to work across mediums, collaborating with dancers, poets, filmmakers and other musicians, currently working on releasing an album featuring Francisco Mela, Jeff Pearring, and Ana Breznik.

Throughout my time at Berklee, and outside of Berklee I have grown a love for teaching, and it is one of my greatest joys when I can witness a student have a personal breakthrough in their music. It's an opportunity that I always cherish as it allows me to grow and learn alongside and from them.

About the lesson

In my lessons I encourage a holistic approach to music, which takes into account student's personal goals, beliefs and ideas. I take great interest in student's artistic and intellectual interests and can help you integrate those ideas into your creative practice; Whether it be composition, orchestration, improvisation, piano or general music theory, I can provide the tools necessary for you to discover your own musical palette.

I am a graduate from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Film & Media Composition, and Game and Interactive Media Composition. During my time there, I worked as a Core Music Tutor for 2 years and received CRLA Tutoring Certification. I have experience teaching students of all levels, from beginners to advanced composers and musicians.

I am happy to teach lessons for all ages and experience levels, either online (Zoom/Discord) or face to face. Lessons can be 1-2 hours, depending on preference, and they are very flexible to your needs!

Learning music with Ricky is extremely fun and engaging. He is super adaptable and always listens to your comments to build up on the topics you're most interested in and stimulate your creativity. With him, nothing is wrong, and you feel capable of achieving anything. I wish there were more teachers like him!

RICKY IS AN AMAZING MUSICIAN AND EDUCATOR! I had him for tutoring at Berklee and every lesson with him leaves me with a kind of learning that transcends concepts of music. He easily breaks down ideas and strengthens your understanding of them, and moreover, he makes it a safe space for all his students. He knows how to redirect you in terms of what you need in your musicianship and shows you the way on how you can better fortify your artistic depth :) Take him when you have the chance!!

Ricky was introduced to me by a friend who was receiving piano lessons from him.
I wanted to learn piano too and Ricky offered to give me some lessons. In the lessons he was super friendly and he was able to strike the perfect balance of theory and practice in the hour.
He is incredibly talented and will put the effort and heart into making a student progress.

I've known Ricky since the start of college, and we've been friends for 5/6 years now. Ricky has helped me through my musical journey by sharing his passion, drive, musicality and willingness to share his knowledge and inspiration. I have felt more comfortable with improvisation and orchestration/technical music theory since his passion carries through so naturally.

Ricky is an incredible teacher!
I learned more music theory from him in one lesson than I did in 4 years of classes.
He manages to relate music concepts to life and really takes into account personal interests (we related concepts to The Beatles, Ravel, and Slovenian folk music).
Ricky manages to demystify improvisation, and has helped me to become more confident in playing and also more brave to explore new things in music.
Couldn’t recommend him enough!
