About Alexis
I came to the United States in 2001 after I won a Fulbright
Scholarship to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Film at Ohio
University. As a graduate student, I taught several Spanish
classes in the Modern Language Department there. In 2013, I
returned to the country and received a second Master of Fine
Arts in Studio Arts at the San Francisco Art Institute, and
after teaching Art History at the Rafael Belloso Chacin
University in Miami, and Animation to elementary school
students in Los Angeles, I moved back to San Francisco when I was accepted in the Pathway to Teaching Program of the San Francisco Unified School District, and I was asked to develop a class on Latin American Cinema for the San Francisco Art Institute. In part, because of the pandemic, I was not able to finish the Pathway to Teaching Program, and the Latin American Cinema class: Cinema Revolucion!, was canceled. Just before the pandemic entered its worst stage, I was able to secure a position as a Bilingual Aide, and later, as a Special Education Paraprofessional, at the Thomas Edison Charter Academy, which allowed me to keep on working in education during these challenging times.
