About Martin

I am a qualified guitar, bass guitar and ukulele teacher possessing Guitar Teaching Diplomas of the London College of Music (contemporary guitar) and of the ABRSM (classical guitar). I started playing guitar when I was 11. So, 35 years ago :). I've gathered my first band when I was 12. Guitar/ukulele playing and composing are my biggest passions. I simply love my job, I love sharing my passion and knowledge. I've been teaching guitar, bass guitar and ukulele for 20 years. I had a privilege of teaching guitar famous film director Guy Ritchie and his and Madonna's son Rocco. They are both very talented and creative! Proud to say that they have improved their improvisation and music theory knowledge a lot during our lessons. Many of my students, regardless of their age, have learnt to write great songs with my help. That makes me so proud and happy! I am amazed how many people are able to produce great music if you educate them and motivate them!

I tailor my guitar, bass guitar and ukulele lessons according to individual needs and desires. I have prepared numerous students for the ABRSM, LCM or Trinity exams in classical, electric, acoustic guitar and ukulele with 100% success. I enjoy teaching my students to play their favourite classical, pop, rock, blues...songs. As a successful songwriter with a record deal and few hit songs (check my video), I also encourage and teach my students to write their own songs and enjoy improvisation.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I started learning piano when I was 7. But my huge passion for music really developed when I heard Beatles music, when I was about 9 years old. I started learning guitar age 11. Guitar, bass guitar, ukulele and piano are my favourites.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I enjoy lot of styles of music, from classical music and jazz to hard rock. Beatles were always no 1 for me.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

It depends on personality of each person. I always pay special attention to that. Classical music with note reading can be very hard for students with short patience, dyslexia etc. On the other hand, they can be amazing composers or improvisers.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

To become really good on any instrument it takes lot of work. But if you enjoy it , nothing is impossible :)
  • What are your keys to success?

Love for music. Teaching my students to experience joy and pleasure while learning.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Paul McCartney, David Gilmour and Paul Simon. I want to hear about their inner search for magic of music, their philosophy regarding songwriting and playing guitar.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I was teaching a lady, age 42, to play ukulele and compose. She was a complete beginner. I've helped her to put together chords in the key of A minor and a basic melody. Her homework was to write the lyrics and polish the melody.
Seven days later she played me that song, it sounded like a number one hit! I was astonished and proud. She was so grateful, she said she didn't think she will write a song. I love my job! :)
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I am really good teacher it's a fact :). I am very creative and my students learn that from me. No one ever failed music exam (classical or rock) with me, so proud! All of my students become my friends and we have fun during our lessons.
