About Joseph
I have always been the kind of person who notices small details everywhere in life, and violin turned out to be the perfect outlet for that particular obsession. My own training involved painstaking attention to micro-level technical detail, and I genuinely loved that meticulous process rather than finding it tedious the way some students initially do. Ten years of teaching has only deepened my belief that real violinistic mastery lives in the tiny details most teachers and students alike tend to overlook entirely. I am upfront that my studio is intense and detail-heavy because I want students who genuinely value precision to find their way to me specifically. Watching a student develop an ear sharp enough to catch the same tiny details I notice is genuinely one of the most satisfying parts of this work for me. After ten years and four hundred five students, I remain completely convinced that obsessive attention to detail produces a level of violinistic refinement nothing else can match.

I notice things other teachers let slide a fraction of unevenness in a bow stroke or a barely perceptible pitch drift and I address every single one of them. My lessons move slowly and deliberately because true precision cannot be rushed and I would rather perfect four measures completely than sloppily cover an entire piece. Every exercise is broken down into its smallest component parts finger placement bow speed and pressure are each isolated and drilled separately before being recombined. I use a tuner and careful listening constantly during lessons because relying purely on a student's self perception of their own sound invites imprecision to go uncorrected. Recordings are analyzed almost forensically afterward comparing exact pitch center and rhythmic placement against a reference rather than just a general impression of how it sounded. Students sometimes find this level of detail intense at first but the payoff is a genuinely refined polished sound that looser teaching approaches simply cannot replicate. My entire reputation rests on precision and I have no interest in compromising that standard for the sake of moving faster.
