About Ummu Sara

I’m a designer, educator and researcher with a background in graphic design, design management and UI/UX. I hold two Master’s degrees in design-related fields and have experience teaching and supporting students within higher education in Dubai.

Alongside university teaching, I have over four years of experience mentoring students in UI/UX and design, having supported more than 300 learners with software skills, design projects, portfolios and creative development. I am also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), reflecting my experience and commitment to teaching and learning in higher education.

Beyond teaching, I work professionally as a designer and run my own design studio, which allows me to bring real-world design practice into my sessions. My experience spans branding, graphic and multimedia design, UI/UX, digital design and Adobe Creative Cloud.

I aim to create a comfortable and encouraging learning environment where students can ask questions, experiment and build confidence in both their creative thinking and technical skills.

About the lesson

I believe design is best learned by doing. My sessions are practical, interactive and tailored to what you want to achieve, whether that is learning a new software, developing a university project, strengthening your design thinking or simply becoming more confident with your design skills.

I usually begin by understanding your current level and what you would like to work on. From there, sessions can include demonstrations, guided exercises, working through your own projects, idea development and one-to-one feedback. I teach across graphic and multimedia design, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Lightroom, alongside Figma, UI/UX, branding and design thinking.

I have two Master’s degrees in design-related fields, alongside experience teaching and supporting students in higher education. I have also mentored students in UI/UX and design software for several years, working with learners at different stages of their design journey.

Sessions are typically 60 minutes and are suitable for university students, design students, beginners and anyone looking to develop their creative or technical design skills. Lessons can also be tailored around a particular project, portfolio or software skill you would like to improve.
