Find out more about Syeda Wasiyah

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed a deep interest in teaching the Quran from an early age. Learning the Quran not only strengthened my faith but also inspired me to help others learn it beautifully and correctly. Over time, I realized that private tutoring allows me to give personal attention to students and help them improve with comfort and confidence. Teaching the Quran gives me peace and happiness because I know I am helping students connect with their religion.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Quran reading with Tajweed, basic Islamic studies, pronunciation, memorization, and daily duas. I especially enjoy teaching Tajweed because it helps students recite the Quran correctly and beautifully. I also like discussing Islamic manners, patience, respect, and the importance of understanding the message of the Quran. Every student learns differently, so I enjoy finding methods that make learning easier and enjoyable for them.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I was greatly inspired by my own Quran teachers. Their patience, kindness, and dedication motivated me to become a teacher myself. They taught me that a good teacher not only teaches lessons but also inspires confidence and good character in students. I try to follow the same approach with my own students.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor should be patient, understanding, encouraging, and consistent. Every student learns at a different pace, especially when learning the Quran, so it is important to create a comfortable and positive learning environment. A good tutor should also communicate clearly and motivate students to keep improving.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of the most memorable experiences for me was helping a student who initially struggled with Quran pronunciation and lacked confidence. With regular practice and encouragement, the student gradually improved and eventually started reciting fluently with confidence. Seeing that progress reminded me how meaningful teaching can be and how patience truly brings results.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One challenge I faced was perfecting Tajweed and pronunciation, because Quran recitation requires accuracy and continuous practice. However, these challenges taught me discipline and patience. Even today, I continue learning and improving because teaching the Quran is a journey of lifelong learning and self-improvement.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My greatest passion is helping students build a connection with the Quran. I enjoy teaching in general, but teaching the Quran is especially meaningful to me because it combines education with spirituality. I love seeing students gain confidence, improve their recitation, and develop love and respect for the Quran.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

What makes me a great tutor is my patience, dedication, and personalized teaching style. I try to make every lesson comfortable, engaging, and easy to understand. I focus not only on correct recitation but also on building confidence and motivation in my students. I genuinely care about my students’ progress and always encourage them to improve step by step.
