About Roxanna

I am a freelance cellist and music educator, currently working at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of music and dance as a researcher and improvisation tutor.
I often perform across notable venues in UK & Europe, including Cafe Oto (London), Northen Ballet (Leeds), CRL- Central Elétrica (Porto), Espaço MIRA (Porto), Bozar (Brussels), METRIC IP (Tallinn), Sound Festival (Sound Scotland) and Abastan Factory (Armenia). My work has been recognised and supported by numerous institutions such as Help Musicians, Criatório Porto, Halaqat - Goethe Institute, Arts & Humanities Research Council, & i-Portunus.

When I am not teaching or performing, I am an active researcher, with a number of articles and chapters, in intercultural muisc themed books and volumes.
I hold a fully CRB/DBS check.

University :
- Goldsmiths, University of London - BMus Music [2:1], specialised my studies in classical performance and music education.
- MA in performance and music education from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of music and dance, achieving Distinction (1st Class), and received the Directors prize for achievement and significant contributions to the music education department and Widder institution.

About the lesson

I am a cello tutor who enjoys teaching a wide range of ages and abilities, always aiming to inspire my students, driving them to improve and truly enjoy playing the cello! I have been teaching cello privately and across London schools for over 10 years now. A number of my students have received top exam marks or been successful in scholarship/school entrance exam auditions. My lessons have a unique blend of classical, popular, cross-cultural music and improvisation techniques, as crossing genres is my speciality as a performer and artist!

My approach to teaching is very open-minded and flexible - I tailor lessons to each individuals` needs and offer lessons for:
- ABRSM Grade exams
- TC Grade exams
- ABRSM music theory exams
- GCSE and A-Level music performance exams
- scholarship/school entrance exam auditions
- general personal improvement
- playing for personal leisure
- All ages and abilities (from age 5 to adult learners, and beginner to advanced)

I teach from my flat in Surrey Quays or offer online lessons. I have been developing my online approach now for four years, to provide the best education possible with a hybrid approach - my online lessons always include addition practice material such as videos, listening resources and practice guidance.

Roxanna has taught my son and she is now teaching me to play the cello. She pays attention to details, she is very patient and helpful, but most importantly her lessons are adaptable for different people and I feel this strongly as I see mine and my sons development. She also helped us find our cellos and it is always trying to inspire us with extra curricular things such as documentaries.

One of the reasons why I decided to take up an instrument at my age is that I hope my son will be inspired by my progress so far and the possibilities of achieving things that might have seemed daunting at first. Now he can see that his dad can do it and this should give him (also myself) the confidence to continue with whatever he decides to do in the future. I'm confident Roxanna will make our journeys excellent, I highly recommend her.
