About Qinming
I'm a producer, composer, singer, and sound engineer currently in my third year of a Bachelor of Music at Monash University majoring in Composition and Technology. I graduated VCE completing units 1 to 4 of VCE Music Performance and have completed two out of four theory units in my course. I have also written lead sheets and transcribed music for other musicians.
I gained my strong foundations of theory and ear training through VCE Music Performance practices during secondary education, however, when first encountering expectations of VCE in music theory and aural, I found that both myself and some of my peers who also had little aural training prior to the VCE curriculum struggled immensely to keep up with the ear training expectations and more complex theory concepts.
Through dedication and commitment I found myself being able to excel at the subject, finding my ability to conceptualize the content for myself and even others. I often find that students like myself and my peers studying the VCE music curriculumn have a hard time finding support and help for the subject, as theory and aural is often seen as a "succeed if you start young" practices. I want to teach those who feel the same struggle as I once did to teach them techniques that turn what feels impossible into something that can be achieved through muscle memory.

Having studied and graduated with VCE Music Performance Units 1 to 4 myself, and taking Standard Music Theory and Jazz Theory Units in university, I am offering both fundimental theory and ear training education for all ages as well as VCE Music Performance Theory, Aural exam and SAC preperation for year 11 and 12, providing insight on effective ear training practices, written exam practices such as how to tackle rhythmic and melodic dictation, how to elevate your aural components with objective music terminology and much more.
I am a believer of providing personalized methods of teaching to each person’s case. I understand each student learns and absorbs information uniquely and I pride myself in my dedication to find that solution for each case. With that said I do not believe in anyone being incapable of learning music or having no music talent, allow me to place the information through the correct lense and let the outcome speak for itself.
Furthermore I like to simplify things in my teaching, as it provides the learner with more confidence both during our lessons and when learning in their own time. During my experiences tutoring in the past, I have been praised for my ability to break down content and task requirements into digestible ideas.
Whether you’re in need of a bit of guidance on how to perform well on written music exams and sacs, or you’re completely lost on how any of it works, I’m more than willing to look over your homework and help break it down or share techniques and methods, assisting you throughout the year.
