About Longina
There is wider lack of understanding dyslexia and what it means to the people who live with it every day. In 2009 I began my current Special Needs teaching job with underachieving. Children were unable to progress in reading or writing because of the condition which they had. I began my work by assessing the problems at an individual level. I developed a dyslexia unit to tackle that problem. I not only identified appropriate resources (e.g. from the internet, Power Point and other presentations plus suitable books), but used them on a daily bases to improve children’s learning. In that way I was able to maximise the different children’s learning opportunities in the available time I had. By working alongside classroom teachers and the Head of Special Needs, I adapted my teaching activities so that the children were able to learn more and feel that they are achieving. I recorded and securely stored all information about the children to protect their privacy. This was shared when necessary with other colleagues in professional confidence, and with parents / guardians as appropriate. Having all personal information organised in a correct way it was easier to see all changes and find where maybe a different approach is necessary for achieving even better results. In my work I have concentrated not only on the effective process of daily learning, but on respecting the needs and circumstances of the individual child.
