About Olive

Hi, I’m Olive! I’m currently studying Philosophy and Politics at Durham University, after achieving an A* in Religious Studies, an A in English Literature, and a B in Politics at A-Level. My passion for teaching, especially in English Literature, comes from the joy of helping students reach their full potential and seeing them succeed in their exams. I believe that every student can excel with the right guidance, and I love being part of that journey. In addition to tutoring, I’m an aspiring lawyer, which keeps me sharp in critical thinking and analysis. Outside of academics, I enjoy clay pigeon shooting, pilates, and skiing—activities that help me stay focused and relaxed. My goal as a tutor is to make learning both engaging and effective, helping students not only master their subjects but also develop skills that will serve them throughout their careers.

About the lesson

I take a tailored approach to tutoring, using proven techniques that help students excel: By working with exam board mark schemes, I guide students through the key points needed for high-scoring essays, ensuring they know exactly what examiners are looking for. We focus on time management with practice essays, helping students build confidence under exam conditions. To make memorisation easier, I use flashcards for quotes, context, critics, and analysis, while also offering mind maps for visual learners. I identify each student’s learning style before we begin so that every lesson is effective and engaging. Lessons are typically one hour long and are perfect for GCSE and A-level students (Years 11, 12, and 13), ready to achieve their best results.
