About Lucy

I am a contemporary artist currently on a Masters Programme to gain my Masters in Contemporary Art at City and Guilds of London Art School. I professionally create and exhibit my artwork making mixed media paintings based mainly upon landscape and abstract depictions of spaces. My practice mainly consists of drawing, painting and print making. I mainly use mainly acrylic paint, watercolour, gouache, oil Paint, pastels, graphite charcoal, ink, chalk and many different surfaces such as canvas, wood and aluminium. I have had many exhibitions both group and solo exhibiting my work across London in prestigious galleries, for example Osbourne Studio's where I recently had a solo exhibition. I have been on residency's both in the UK and abroad, for example, last summer I was in Lisbon on a residency called PADA for two months where I focussed on my paintings practice working and exhibiting with 10 other contemporary artists from around the globe. I have 15 years experience as an independent artist as well as art teacher with SEND. Fully qualified with QTS (qualified teacher status) all ages and Cache level 3 qualified for early years with plenty experience in schools both early years, primary and secondary. My QTS has 40 % credits with SEND meaning that I also teach children with ADHD, Autism and other SEND related issues. I also teach workshops in London at various venues such as Soho House where I have guided groups in a quest to inspire young adults to maintain their wellbeing through the process of painting - my approach during these workshops is relaxed whilst maintaining a strong presence, giving individuals the space, time and encouragement required to create meaningful artwork. I have taught art for 8 years both schools, in workshop sessions and one to one tutoring sessions as well as supported children with SEND and SEND related issues such as ADHD, autism and anxiety. I am fully qualified. My teaching is very personal, empathetic and informative. As well as focussing on techniques and skill while respecting each students level and guiding them intuitively towards their next personal best level whilst all the time, striving for fun in the process too. On the way to the achievement I can recommend current exhibitions to see and introduce students to great masters of art deriving inspiration from them (Van Gogh, Hockney, Matisse, Cezanne, Edvard Munch to name a few) I have extensive knowledge of contemporary artists and as I get to know the student can encourage them to research or gain inspiration from up and coming artists today. Whether the art student prepares for an exam, just wants to begin making and enjoying art, develop to the next level or support any SEND related issues including ADHD, autism, anxiety and depression; anyone's needs are addressed.

About the lesson

My two main passions in life are nurturing and creating art. The second is working with people to help them get the most out of the creation process as well and to feel the joy which I do. Bespoke lessons online and face to face are tailored towards your goals and desires to becoming an artist. I fully believe that everyone is an artist and offer the support artists at all levels and ages need to unlock creativity, gain confidence and even reach the level of professionally exhibiting and selling through a gallery. My beliefs in exploring, experimenting and challenge as a way of revealing students’ unique talents and success make me a good fit for anyone with the desire to make art. My most powerful teaching technique is perhaps my ability to communicate my knowledge and also joy for this wonderful subject. Positivity is at the forefront of my teaching and is what drives me and those who I teach forward. My skills in empathy which I continue to expand allow me to develop positive relationships with students and also understand them as individuals and at a deeper level. I am relentless in my belief in positive thinking and make use of my therapeutic qualifications when teaching (also a qualified Counsellor (level 2). I believe that with the right attitude anyone can make beautiful and meaningful art and I provide a safe space where people can learn and where students feel comfortable to communicate things they may find difficult - this can often be channelled into making meaningful artwork! My lessons start with a chat about what you want to achieve as a student and then let you draw something of your choice to assess your level. Whether the art student prepares for an exam, just wants to begin making and enjoying art, develop to the next level or support any SEND related issues including ADHD, autism, anxiety and depression; anyone's needs are addressed and I am here to support and guide you through the process of gaining confidence in the life changing practice of making art.
