About Kala

Hi! My name is Kala, and I’m a CCRN-certified Cardiothoracic ICU nurse with over 4 years of experience in critical care, 4 years of LPN, and 7 years of CNA. I’m also currently pursuing my Master's degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I know how overwhelming nursing school can feel—because I’ve been there and I’m still in it! That’s exactly why I’m passionate about supporting fellow nursing students through every stage of their journey. What makes me relatable is not just my clinical experience, but my life outside of nursing. I’m a mom of two, a wife, and someone who genuinely understands what it’s like to juggle school, work, and family all at once. I also love singing, finding joy in music as a creative outlet and a stress reliever—something I often encourage my students to do: find balance. I offer structured, patient, and down-to-earth tutoring tailored to your needs—whether you're just starting out, navigating med-surg and pharmacology, preparing for clinicals, or studying for the NCLEX. My teaching style is grounded in clarity, encouragement, and real-world connection. I use case-based learning, memory tricks, and active recall strategies to help you truly understand the material—not just memorize it. Above all, I create a safe and supportive learning space where you can ask anything, think critically, grow in their confidence, and grow both as a student and future nurse. I’m here to remind you that you’re capable, and you don’t have to go through this alone. Let’s do this together!

As a tutor, I focus on breaking down complex nursing concepts into simple, digestible parts using real-life clinical examples, active recall techniques, and patient scenarios to help students understand and retain what they learn—not just memorize it for exams. Teaching Method & Techniques -I adapt my approach based on how you learn best—whether you're a visual learner, prefer case-based learning, or need structure and step-by-step breakdowns. -I use Socratic questioning to promote critical thinking and guide you to the right answer without spoon-feeding. -I incorporate NCLEX-style questions, quick recall drills, and concept mapping into lessons for long-term retention. ️ Typical Lesson Plan Each session is tailored to your needs, but a typical lesson includes: -Quick check-in on your goals, current stressors, and progress -Focused review of one or two topics (e.g., heart failure patho, med calculations) -Case study or practice questions to apply the content -Wrap-up with a summary, memory trick, and “what to review next” plan What Sets Me Apart I'm not just a tutor—I’m a working ICU nurse and a grad student, so I understand what you’re going through. -I bring real-world experience, a compassionate teaching style, and a strong clinical foundation. -I support students emotionally as well as academically, especially when burnout or imposter syndrome creeps in. Who My Lessons Are For -Pre-nursing and current nursing students (ASN/BSN) -Bridge students (LPN to RN, RN to BSN) -NCLEX candidates (RN or PN) -New Grads transitioning to practice
