About Olivia
I am a graduate from the University of Exeter. I hold a 2:1 degree in English so I know the subject and it’s intricacies extremely well, I love the subject so much I dedicated 22 years of my life to pursuing a degree in it!
Before attending the University of Exeter I worked as a Maths and English tutor for a year at Explore Learning.
Not only did I gain practical experience in tutoring but I also l lead creative writing and English based workshops for children, visited schools to work with children. I thrived in this environment and I was awarded ‘Tutor of the Quarter’ award that was given to me for excelling in time management, feedback, and tutoring fun-factor.
For the more advanced student I know exactly what it is like to sowmtimes struggle or want to achieve the best you can in English as I’ve studied it my whole life and therefore can empathise. I believe this knowledge of the structure of English exams and the unique stresses of studying English make me an excellent tutor because I have been in your position!

Having worked professionally as an English tutor as well as completing an English degree, and assisting family members with their English exams and assessments I have a unique set of experiences that blend both the personal and the professional. My method with teaching is always to find out what the pupil is excited about and thrives on, for example you might have an incredible imagination but find it hard to communicate thoughts through words? In this case I would focus on working out creative solutions to the problem that drew on the pupil’s preexisting strengths.
I believe that being someone that is both understanding of the situation (having had tutoring myself) is crucial as well as someone who has studied English to a university level and who adores the subject.
I believe fundamentally that if you are passionate about the subject- your pupils will respond to that. It is those inspiring tutors and teachers that seemed so knowledgable and enthusiastic that has led me to become a tutor and is something I take with me into any class.
