About Mark
I am a teacher and a professor who likes to show students who believe they are poor readers that actually there is a better way of teaching that will make them good readers! I have worked with 100's of students over 20 years and most finish the lessons not only good at reading but also enjoying it. I don't start you all over as a beginning reader so no worry about that. You help me find out what makes reading hard and together we go to work getting rid of it.

My teaching is called "direct instruction" which means during the lessons the students and teacher participate together in the lessons. As I know and as you probably also know there are many "parts" to reading that must go together to make a good readers. But if someone misses one part or doesn't understand a part then it messes up understanding the other parts. So, in the way I teach we have separated all the parts. Then we take each part separately, learn each one well and then go to the next part. After every lesson you keep a chart showing your progress as your reading skills grow-its exciting and some of my students tell me it is fun!
